My name is Luisa Patiño and I’m from Colombia 🇨🇴 (A country full of coffee, beautiful places, and kind people).
Drawing has been always a part of myself, it’s been my way to release and relieve my soul.
At 16 years old thinking about applying to university, I wanted to get into an arts program. However, life is not always what we want to do but what we have to do, so I ended up enrolling in a BSc in Geological Engineering. I felt in love with geology, and my passion for the history of earth, its process, and landscapes grew to the top.
After finishing my BSc, in 2016, I enrolled in a MSc in environment, and then in 2019 I was enrolling in a PhD in geology at the University of Regina.
It was during this time in Canada when I started doing stick n pokes on myself and my friends, but just for fun.
In 2021, I was visiting my home country and a good friend of mine who’s an excellent tattoo artist asked me to join a seminar he was teaching about realism. I said no a couple times as I was focused on my studies but he finally convinced me and started learning about tattoos.
I bought my very first machine from Amazon and I did my very first tattoo on my cousin, and he even let me free handed it.
I returned to Canada in February 2022 and my friends started to ask me to tattoo them, now with machine (remember that I used to do stick n pokes on them!), so now I was tattooing friends and friends of my friends, again, just for fun.
I tried to get into an apprenticeship and I reached out to the studios in Regina but none on them where taking on apprentices.
When I finished my studies, I started to look for jobs in geology and while waiting for that, I was still doing tattoos.
Then, one day, I decided to open a small private studio as I was getting busier.
Two weeks later after I open this studio, a tattoo artist offered me an interview at their shop and ended up hiring me. So I was now working in the coolest shop in Regina!
I kept getting busier and busier and what started as a hobby became my full time job!
I live doing tattoos and I’m deeply grateful with every person that chooses my art and decides to trust me with their skin.
Tattooing is an experience that I value profoundly and I will always do my best to give you a good and kind experience.
Luisa
